Confession: Like a cardiologist who loves steak or a pulmonologist who smokes…I’m a podiatrist who loves wearing sexy high heels!
From day one of medical school, I was taught that high heels are the root of foot problems in women–but as a woman I love wearing them! They elongate our legs, make us taller, and well frankly…they’re pretty!
However, the bottom line is high heels aren’t healthy for our feet. They place our bodies in unnatural positions and put extra pressure on the balls of our feet. Extended wear can lead to a list of problems.
So what do I tell my patients when they look over and see me wearing a cute pair of heels at work?
There’s no simple answer.
