Jamie Chung can survive a season of The Real World, act in hit movies but can she design a shoe line? I’ve always admired Jamie Chung’s simple, minimalistic yet feminine style. So, I was curious to try a pair of her shoes from her fashion collection 42 Gold which hit stores in February 2019. Her shoe line’s motto: “42 Gold line are shoes for the woman on the go, for comfort, and shoes that we can wear all day to night”. The shoe line contains mules, a few slides, two open toe booties, closed toe boots and various sandals. First let’s take a look at her line 42 Gold and then I’ll let you know my thoughts!(This post contains affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.)
42 Gold Shoe Line: Link Slide Sandal Review
After shopping around on Nordstrom and reading other reviews, Jamie Chung’s Linx slide sandal won me over. In my opinion, the Link slide sandal is truly the star of the 42 Gold shoe line. It’s modern, structured, and sleek, plus it doesn’t look like anything I already own or have in my shoe closet. In addition, my closet is mostly blues, pinks and neutrals so the pink color is an obvious choice. The Link Slide design is available in multiple colors including: grey, neutral, gold, yellow, black, and grey.
Once the sandals arrived, I tried them on in my NYC apt. The color is such a cute girly pink. I am happy to report that the upper band portion around the shoe added extra support to my feet–a bonus! In comparison to other sandals, it’s safe to say the Link Sandal is slightly more supportive than an average sandal.
Here are more details about this specific shoe: the sandal is made of soft lined suede. Moreover, the heel height is a 3 3/4 inches. The heels are too high for work, so I wore them out with friends for after-work cocktails. The toe strap is a bit narrow, I’ll elaborate more on this so keep reading!
Jamie Chung Link Slide Sandals: My Pro/Con Review
PROS: When wearing, the sandals suede feels very soft on my skin. Additionally, the ankle portion of the shoe actually supports my feet more than an average stiletto. I wear a 9.5 (US) and the shoes fit to size. The heel is thicker than a stiletto but not quite a block heel. The heel shape is more rectangular so I did feel stability in the heel portion of the sandal. Overall, it felt like I was wearing a 3 inch heel vs a 3 3/4 inch heel.
CONS: After wearing these for two hours, I thought the shoe could have used more comfort in the forefoot ‘toe’ area. For instance, I’ve worn several shoe brands around for the last few years, there is a difference between a comfortable heel and a less comfortable one. I’d have to say this is ‘middle road’ comfort. The contour of the arch could have also used more cushioning. For someone with an average or narrow foot the fit is just fine. However, I do not recommend this shoe for a wide foot, as the sandal straps may feel uncomfortable.
Pro/Con: To overall market these shoes as a comfort shoe line may be a bit of a stretch. From wearing around the Link Slide in NYC, I’d say they are ‘middle-of-the-road’ comfort shoes. Above all, the shoes have a cool modern design especially the Link Slide. Priced at $140.00 USD, they are a beautiful pair of neutral shoes for a fun night out in the city. See photos below for how I styled my 42 Gold sandals.
Outfit Details:
Side note: My Friend Nikita styled this outfit for me. The Kate Spade handbag she choose looks small but it surprisingly can fit a lot of things. Plus, the heart detail on the bag is OH SO CUTE! I matched the red detail on the bag with this ruffled blouse from Prabal Gurung. A similar looking blouse is linked here.
42 Gold Mules
In addition to the Link Slide sandal, I also own a pair of 42 Gold Mules. The mules are cute, practical and match just about anything. Look at the photo below for example, I’m wearing them with a cute polka-dot blue summer jumpsuit.
In the same vein, I’m disappointed to read negative reviews about 42 Gold boots on Nordstrom.com. Reviewers complain about her boots feeling uncomfortable, looking cheap, etc. Unfortunately, not all of Jamie Chung’s shoes measure up. However, her sandals and mules do have some fans, myself included!
